It is May the 5th. One of our free to air channels is playing The Fifth Element on repeat. I have just started my third run.

I love that movie. I was really disappointed with Valerian , though.

I think I saw it twice back in the 90s before I got completely Chris Tuckered out and couldn’t watch him (or the movie) again. It was like Total Recall on acid.

Neither of the leads really seemed to give a shit for each other. Zero chemistry. But like most LB movies, it was visually stunning. There was just too much time spent with the leafs sitting around bitching at each other. Luc Besson needs to find a better director than himself. The best Star Wars movie was the one that George Lucas didn’t direct.

Laureline and Valerian have always had a love/hate relationship, so that part was intentional. DeHaan just has zero charisma and his build is too slight to be taken seriously for the part.

I get that, but even when they hated each other it was not convincing. It’s like they weren’t even in the same room together, and then when they had their love scene, it was utterly unbelievable and felt like a non sequitur.
